My Thoughts

So after all the hype the 8th studio album by the foo fighters has been release called Sonic Highway and as the name of the accompanying TV series that follows the band across the country as they record each song from the album.

Each song from “Sonic Highways” was recorded at a different recording studio in a different city with different guest musicians. This is the second album in a row that the foo fighters have thinking outside the box and it the most part it works in this album.

The sound is vurious in it execution but with them recording in 8 different cites with two of them having strong blue’s and country backgrounds like austin textus and New Orleans it going to happened. But songs like Feast and the famine, congregation and I’m in the clear have big sounding guitar with I’m in the clear being the best. But with the band having three guitarist they were always going to have a good sound.

The cool synth part in something from nothing, country solo’s in congregation and david bowie sounding song in subterranean and are album highlight. But with the sound giving an all over the place feel. With watching the documentary and knowing that Dave Grohl was waiting to the last minute to write the lyrics and to get inspired by the studio’s and cites he was visited was at time a costly idea.

With at time it has the feeling he add some lyrics due to the interview he had like in song ‘something from nothing’ with the line ‘Button on a string’ and on ‘congregation’ with ‘Send in the congregation. But still good lyrics and he has a good track record.

Overall View

7 out of 10

It good album and is a good listen and you will be quite happy at the end. But with the album feeling more of side note to the documentary it an album you will sorry forgot after the first listen. With great sounding guitars and cool new sounds still make it worth at least one listen.

The songs you should check out;

  1. In The Clear
  2. Congregations
  3. Subterranean
  4. I Am A River
